Do you have experience writing and creating plays? Dronfield Heritage Trust has begun a partnership with First Art with the aim to bring the Poor Old Horse tradition up to date for future generations to enjoy.
Dronfield Heritage Trust brought back this tradition and performed Poor Old Horse for the first time in several decades at the end of last year.
In years gone by a group of performers would visit private houses and pubs each year around Christmas to collect money for local charities, performing and singing the traditional tale. We would like to bring the folk tale up to date but want to include many of the traditional elements too, including an established song. We have also recently made a new horse!
To find out more about the tradition, please download this booklet that DHT produced last year: Poor Old Horse.
The new play will need to be adaptable so it can be performed in a variety of spaces and timescales. It should also be versatile so that it can be performed as a promenade and as a static performance.
We are looking for applications from writers with experience in this field, who can work successfully with young people and the elderly. Together you will create a performance rooted in tradition with a contemporary twist that will become a legacy from First Art for the people of Dronfield.
If this sounds like something for you, and you wish to learn more about this role, please download this document: Call for artists.
