This workshop is suitable for beginners to free-motion machine embroidery. You don’t need to have any experience of this technique but you must be able to thread and use your own sewing machine for basic sewing.
In this workshop you’ll:
- Learn how to set your own machine up for free machine embroidery
- Learn the basic technique of free-motion machine embroidery (drawing with stitch) and have a go at some simple activities designed to help you develop your skills
- Have the opportunity to practise your skills and create your own designs
- Work at your own level and pace with plenty of ideas and examples available to inspire you
- Have access to a variety of materials, threads and embellishments
In a small group, I’ll help you to develop your skills and give you ideas and tips about how to use this technique to develop your own designs.
Once you’ve learned the basic technique of free-motion machine embroidery you can continue to practise and experiment at home and the possibilities will be endless!
What you’ll need to bring:
- Your own sewing machine with a darning foot for ‘free-machine embroidery’. You can buy these online on sites such as Amazon or in good sewing shops. Some sewing machines will take a generic darning foot but most will need a darning foot that is specific to your make and model of machine. Do check that the foot fits your make and model of machine.
- You will need to be able to lower or cover the teeth or feed dogs on your machine. On some machines the feed dogs won’t lower and they have a plate that fits over the feed dogs to cover them. If this is the case you’ll need a plate that’s specific to your machine.
- If you have a manual for your sewing machine it may be useful to bring this along too.
- Some spare needles and bobbin spools that fit your own machine
All other materials will be provided.
Refreshments will be available in The Barn Café.
