Description
Christine Handley, Ian Rotherham and the RFC Airfield Research Group, have produced a superb new book on the airfields of Meadowhead, Norton and Greenhill
It is difficult to believe what the modern day Meadowhead area was like at the beginning of the 20th century and how the coming of WWI and the defence of Sheffield would have such a lasting effect. What was a rural farming landscape with grand houses on the fringe of Derbyshire and Sheffield became a hive of industry during WWI.
After WWI the area had changed greatly and these changes continued and increased in the years after. This book, written by members of the RFC airfield research group, charts some of these developments into the suburb we see today
