Our Arts Festival may have come to an end, but we’ve still got plenty of events coming up over the next few weeks and months!
Starting from May 16th is our performances of ‘Merchants of Fortune’ – Dronfield Theatre Group will tell the story the Derbyshire lead trade in a specially written and commissioned musical drama/documentary. Also featuring local band Scuppered, who will provide the score. There will be several performances of the play – Find out how to purchase tickets and more information by clicking here.
Back by popular demand, make sure you don’t miss our on our Dry Stone Walling courses. The course is split into two days, the first at the Barn and the second in the beautiful Peak District! Led by Mike Baker, you will learn the history, theory and technique of dry stone walling at the Barn. On the second day you will travel to Ridgeway Side, near Hathersage, and be joined by Tom Lewis – a Peak District Park Area Ranger and put what you have learnt into practice. All abilities are welcome – but please be aware that there are only 12 places available per session. The first workshop takes on May 17th-18th, with the second June 21st-22nd. On May 24th, join Ann Brown, one of our archivists, as she explores this event—(just over) 100 years since the Russian Revolution. Illustrated with captivating images from Ann’s trip to Russia, her talk will give a detailed description of the events that lead to the rise of the Soviet Union. Tickets cost £2 for members and £4 for non-members, and can be purchased online here, or you can turn up on the night.
Don’t forget that you also have less than a month to get your entries in for this year’s Dronfield Wildlife & Natural History Group Photography Competition. The three categories for this year are Seabirds, The Oak, and Insects. Closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday June 1st. Entries will be used to form an exhibition in the gallery space of the Barn later this year. First place in each category and overall winner will all receive vouchers for camera equipment.
